Adobe Portfolio alternative: how to move your portfolio in 2026

When your Creative Cloud plan ends, Adobe keeps your Portfolio online for 14 days, then takes it offline. You do not have to rebuild it from your original files: while it is still live, the site can be rebuilt from its public pages. Here is what the move means, and how to do it without losing your work or your domain.

I ran my own portfolio on Adobe Portfolio for five years. It was fine until I wanted to change something it was not built for, and found out I could not take the site with me. This guide is what I wish I had read then.

The short answer

Signs it is time to move

  • You want to cancel or downgrade Creative Cloud, but your portfolio is holding you there.
  • Your case studies need more than a grid of images: longer stories, process, results.
  • You want control over speed, search, analytics or layout that the templates do not give you.
  • Your work now lives mostly on Instagram, Behance or in folders, and the site has fallen behind.

What you can take with you

Everything that matters, though not as files you can download in one click. Your original images are on your computer or in Creative Cloud. Your text can be copied page by page. Your domain, if you bought it yourself, is yours. What stays behind is the template, the layout, and any myportfolio.com address.

How to move, step by step

  1. Make a list of every page. Your site's /sitemap.xml lists them. You will use this list to keep the same addresses, or to redirect old ones. The full backup checklist walks through it.
  2. Collect the originals. Gather full resolution images and videos from your own files, not screenshots of the site.
  3. Copy your words. Project descriptions, your about text, and client names. This is usually the part people lose.
  4. Choose where the new site lives. A builder you rent, or a site you own as plain files. The comparison below helps.
  5. Rebuild, then check it on a phone. Most portfolio visits happen on mobile.
  6. Point your domain at the new site. Only after the new site is ready. Keep the Adobe site live until the new one is up, so nothing goes dark in between.
  7. Update your links. Instagram bio, LinkedIn, Behance, email signature, and any application you have sent recently.
If your portfolio runs on a myportfolio.com address, that address cannot come with you. Moving is a good moment to get your own domain, so this never happens again.

The alternatives worth considering

If you want templates and do not mind a subscription

Squarespace, Wix, Cargo and Format all give you ready templates and hosting. You rebuild once by hand and pay monthly. None of them exports a working copy of your site: at most some content, as Squarespace does for WordPress, and you rebuild the rest by hand. So you are trading one lock for another, usually a more flexible one. The full comparison is in Portfolio website tools in 2026.

If you never want to be locked in again

Own the site as plain files on your computer, published on hosting in your own name. It used to mean hiring a developer. In 2026 you change a site like that by describing what you want to an AI tool such as Claude Code or Codex, in plain words, with no code to write.

Where Promtfolio fits

Promtfolio was built for exactly this move. Paste your link and see your site rebuilt, free and with no signup: the whole home page with every project, and the inside page of three projects. The inside pages of the other projects open when the site is yours, for $39 once, plus tax where it applies, with no subscription. Once it's yours, change anything with AI. One payment covers two ways to use it, and you can switch whenever you like. Take it with you: download the whole site as files, follow the step by step guide to point your domain at it, and host it at no cost, with a setup for Claude Code or Codex so you change it by asking. Go live with us: publish it through Promtfolio in one click and edit it in the studio.

If you have not used Claude Code or Codex before, expect some setup before your first change: installing the app and signing in. That is setup, not code. The Start Here file in your download and the Learning Center take you through it step by step. If you already work with one of them, open the folder and start.

Questions people ask

Can I export my Adobe Portfolio site?

No. Adobe Portfolio has no export and the site only runs on Adobe's servers. Adobe supports moving a Portfolio between Adobe IDs, not to another platform, so moving means saving your content and rebuilding it elsewhere.

What happens to my Adobe Portfolio if I cancel Creative Cloud?

According to Adobe's help center, the site stays live for a 14 day grace period and then goes offline. The content stays in the editor, and you can republish if you subscribe again with the same Adobe ID.

Will I lose my Google ranking if I move off Adobe Portfolio?

If the site runs on your own domain, point that domain at the new site and keep the same page addresses where you can. Search engines then see the same site in a new place. A myportfolio.com address belongs to Adobe and cannot move with you, so update every link that points to it.

What is the best Adobe Portfolio alternative in 2026?

There is no single best one. Squarespace suits polished templates and selling, Cargo suits experimental artists and illustrators, Format and Pixpa suit photographers, and owning your site as plain files suits anyone who never wants to be locked in again.

Can Promtfolio read my Adobe Portfolio?

Yes. Paste your myportfolio.com link on the Promtfolio homepage and you see your site rebuilt, free: the whole home page with every project, and the inside page of three projects. Owning it, with every project page and the whole site as files to download and host anywhere, is $39 once, plus tax where it applies. Once it's yours, change anything with AI.

Is Adobe Portfolio free?

Building is free, publishing is not. Adobe lets you create and edit a Portfolio site without a subscription, and the site goes public only with a paid plan that includes Portfolio. Adobe states that publishing is not supported on a free Creative Cloud membership.

If I cancel my Adobe account, can I pay only for Adobe Portfolio?

No. Adobe's help center says there is currently no standalone Adobe Portfolio subscription. Portfolio comes inside other plans: Creative Cloud All Apps, Single App, Photography and Behance Pro.

Does Adobe Portfolio come with Lightroom, and is it included in Creative Cloud?

Yes for the Photography plan and for Single App plans, according to Adobe's help center, along with All Apps and Behance Pro. It is not included with Acrobat, Adobe Express, Firefly, Adobe Stock or Substance 3D Texturing. To confirm for your own plan, open "See plan & pricing details" on Adobe's plans page and look for Adobe Portfolio.

If I change my plan, will I lose my Portfolio and have to redo years of work?

Only if the new plan leaves Portfolio out: then the site stays live for 14 days and goes offline, and the content stays in the Editor. Adobe's help center has no article on switching plans; what it does say is that a Portfolio belongs to your Adobe ID, and it stays published as long as that ID has a paid plan that includes Portfolio. Check that the new plan lists Adobe Portfolio before you switch.

Can I transfer my Adobe Portfolio to another account?

Yes, between two personal Adobe IDs, and from a school account to a personal one. In the Portfolio Editor go to Settings, then Account & Region, then Use Another Adobe ID, enter the new account's email, and confirm from the email Adobe sends; the link expires after 24 hours. All the sites on the old account move together, up to five sites in total. Adobe does not allow a move between a personal Adobe ID and a company or Enterprise ID.

How do I transfer my website from an Adobe Enterprise account to a personal account?

Adobe does not allow it. Its help center says a Portfolio built under an Enterprise or Federated ID cannot be migrated or exported to another account, because the organization controls the account and what was made in it. The exceptions Adobe lists are school accounts and Business profiles linked to a personal Adobe ID. If the site is still live, it can be rebuilt outside Adobe from its public pages, which is what Promtfolio does.

If I cancel, I lose my Adobe Portfolio. What is an affordable platform for my portfolio?

If the site already exists on Adobe Portfolio, you can keep it instead of starting over on a new platform. Paste its link at promtfolio.com and you see the site rebuilt, free; owning it is $39 once, plus tax where it applies, with no subscription. Once it's yours, change anything with AI. Do it while the Adobe site is still live, because Promtfolio reads the public pages, and Adobe takes them offline 14 days after the plan ends.

Is there a free alternative to Adobe Portfolio?

Yes, there are free options, each with a trade. Behance is free, with no limit on the number of projects, and gives you a profile and project pages on Behance. Wix has a free plan that shows Wix ads and uses a wixsite.com address. A site kept as plain files can be hosted free on Netlify or Cloudflare Pages; the files have to come from somewhere, and Promtfolio's rebuild of an Adobe Portfolio site costs $39 once, plus tax where it applies.
